Shubha Varma, MD

Dr. Varma, an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Vascular Surgery, earned her medical degree at the Maulana Azad Medical College, University of New Delhi India in 1990. Her post-graduate training includes a general surgical residency at The New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens, Cornell University and completion of her fellowship in vascular surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry- New Jersey Medical School.

Dr. Varma's clinical practice focuses on the diagnosis and management of arterial, venous and lymphatic diseases. In addition to her exceptional skills in performing open surgical repairs of carotid arteries, thoracoabdominal and abdominal aortic aneurysms, peripheral artery/vein repair and distal bypass procedures, Dr. Varma brings to the division her expertise in diagnostic angiography and minimally invasive vascular procedures including interventions such as carotid stenting for carotid stenosis, endovascular grafting for aortic and thoracic aneurysms, peripheral arterial angioplasty and stenting for renal, mesenteric and extremity artery occlusive disease as well as thromboembolic venous diseases and chronic venous insufficiency.

Dr. Varma directs the Endovascular Surgery Service at the Palisades Medical Center, North Bergen New Jersey. She has published several journal articles and textbook chapters and has been a regular speaker at local, regional and national conferences on a variety of vascular disease topics. Her special research interests include vascular diseases in diabetic patients and the use of medicated stents in the treatment of peripheral arterial stenoses.
